The former rural community of Neureut, with its village-like yet modern charm, lies in the north of Karlsruhe. This district is a key hub in the northern part of the city, boasting a strong network of public and private services, and serving the communities of the northern Hardt region. Neureut residents enjoy the continuous development of its infrastructure and population. Today, more than 18,000 people live in Neureut. The nearly 50-hectare Kirchfeld-Nord development has been under construction since 2005 on the site of a former American barracks, offering 600 new residential units, a commercial area, improved public transportation, and community and sports facilities. The light rail system provides quick and easy access to Karlsruhe's city center and the nearby Black Forest. Together with the residents of Neureut, the district is being redesigned through a collaborative urban development process. This program, named "Neureut 2020 Urban Development," began in July 2013.
