With its 18,000 inhabitants, the Weststadt district is one of Karlsruhe's most desirable and beautiful neighborhoods. The Kaiserallee, with its streets and squares dating back to the Gründerzeit (late 19th-century boom period), serves as its central axis, lending the Weststadt a distinctive character. The Weststadt also boasts numerous prestigious buildings, including the Academy of Fine Arts, the State Archives, the Higher Regional Court, the Administrative Court, the prison, the West Town Hall, several traditional schools such as the Lessing Gymnasium, the Helmholtz Gymnasium, and the Gutenberg School, the Municipal Hospital, the Adult Education Center, Christ Church and St. Boniface Church, as well as Haydn Square and Gutenberg Square with the Krautkopf Fountain, two of Karlsruhe's most beautiful squares.
