Since October 2018, we have been offering the first blood bank in the Karlsruhe district for cats and dogs.
If your animal needs a transfusion, please ask your veterinarian to arrange a referral to us.
Your cat or dog can be a lifesaver!
In dogs or cats, as with humans, accidents, serious operations or illnesses may require a blood transfusion to save their lives. But for this we need – like with humans – blood!
Your dog can be included in our blood donor register if it meets the following requirements:
– Body weight of at least 20kg
– healthy and between 1 and 9 years old
– does not come from southern countries and is not there regularly
– is not in heat or pregnant at the time of donation
Your cat can be included in our blood donor register if it meets the following requirements:
– Body weight of at least 5 kg
– no known illnesses
– not older than 10 years
Process:
In dogs, blood is usually taken when the patient is awake and in their presence. Sedation is usually necessary for cats.
A thorough general examination is carried out in advance, and in the case of cats there is also an additional cardiac ultrasound examination. In addition, a comprehensive blood test will be carried out so that your darling receives a thorough general check at the same time. These examinations are of course free of charge .
