Since October 2018, we have been offering the first blood bank for cats and dogs in the district of Karlsruhe.
If your animal requires a transfusion, please ask your vet to arrange a referral to us.
Your cat or dog can be a lifesaver!
In dogs or cats, as in humans, accidents, serious operations or illnesses can make it necessary to carry out a blood transfusion in order to save a life. But for this we need blood - just like in humans!
Yours Dog can be included in our blood donor register if they fulfil the following requirements:
- Body weight of at least 20kg
- healthy and between 1 and 9 years old
- does not come from the south and is not regularly located there
- is not in heat or pregnant at the time of donation
Your Cat can be included in our blood donor register if they fulfil the following requirements:
- Body weight of at least 5 kg
- No known illnesses
- not older than 10 years
Procedure:
In dogs, blood samples are usually taken with the patient awake and in their presence. In cats, sedation is usually necessary.
A thorough general examination is carried out beforehand, and cats are also given a cardiac ultrasound examination. A large blood test is also carried out so that your pet gets a thorough general check-up at the same time. These examinations are a matter of course for you free of charge.
