What is a dual degree?

In short: With a dual degree program you have the opportunity to attend a university and at the same time gain practical experience in a company or company. This is particularly useful and practical if, after leaving school, you cannot decide whether you would rather do an apprenticeship or study. With a dual study program you can do both: study and work at the same time! There are various models of dual study, some of which allow you to not only acquire a university degree at the end, but also a training qualification. This special study model combines the best aspects of training and studies: On the one hand, you will be provided with extensive background knowledge at the university. On the other hand, you receive a training allowance and get to know the professional world in a company - with your so-called practical partner. As you can see, this program will make you a real talent at all levels!

What is the difference between dual training and a dual study program?

The aim of a double degree is to closely link practice and theory - similar to dual training - and thus give trainees the opportunity to gain valuable practical experience in the professional world while studying at a university. In this way, what you have learned can be applied and implemented directly on site in the company. The difference to classic dual training: The students do not attend a vocational or technical school for theoretical lessons, but rather a university or academy. There they then aim for a university degree. This means that you will end up with a bachelor's degree, but not necessarily a qualification in a recognized training occupation. But there are also models in which both are possible and you can acquire both a bachelor's degree and completed vocational training at the end of the dual study program.

What dual study options do we offer?

The practice-integrated course

In addition to your study period - in a block or weekly model - you will gain practical experience in a company without completing any additional training.
As a rule, you choose a company where you will do practical work during your dual studies. Internships lasting several months in various companies are also possible. The advantage of this dual study model is that you do not work exclusively with one training partner. You can complete the next internships in different companies, allowing you to gain experience in different areas and build a network of contacts during your dual studies. Another advantage of the practice-integrated dual study program is that you do not have to attend any additional vocational school in addition to the lectures and seminars at the university and therefore, in contrast to the training-integrated study model, you have a little more free time. The practice-integrated dual course of study is particularly suitable for:
Young people at the end of their school years who do not yet have much professional experience and who place great value on a wide selection of practical partners.

The career-integrated dual course of study

This model is suitable for you if you are already working but have now decided to further your education with a dual course of study.
In consultation with the company, you can reduce your working hours on your days off in order to attend your studies. Employer support is therefore a prerequisite for this dual study model. The work-integrated dual study program is exactly the right thing for you if you want to further your education but a full-time job and studying are too much for you. Since you reduce your working hours for this study model, you will of course also receive a lower salary during this time. The work-integrated dual course of study is particularly suitable for:
Employed people who want to further their education with a dual course of study - and want to reduce their working hours in the company to do so.

The part-time dual course of study

The part-time dual study program (also called a combination study program) works similarly to the work-integrated dual study program - with the difference that you do not reduce your working hours. This means that you have a normal working week in your job and at the same time complete an evening or correspondence course. The associated great burden must be taken into account. You will have very little free time during your part-time dual study program.

The advantage here:
You do not have to change your professional status and continue to receive your full salary.
But the employer also openly participates in this dual study model. For example, he has to take you off work for exams. The part-time dual course of study is particularly suitable for:
Working people who want to further their education with a dual course of study - and who want to continue working full-time in their job during this time.

What do I need for a dual study program? Do I have to have a high school diploma to complete a dual course of study?

High school diploma @marygober

In order to be admitted to a double degree course, you need the university entrance qualification, i.e. the Abitur. Please note, however, that with a technical high school diploma you can only study dual at technical colleges and vocational academies, but not at universities, which is also quite rare. Dual study programs are usually offered at universities of applied sciences.

Can I complete a dual course of study without a high school diploma?

You don't have a high school diploma or a technical college diploma? You still have a chance of getting a dual study place - if you have completed training and at least three years of professional experience or have completed further training to become a master craftsman, technician or business economist.
