With the merging of various settlement areas in the Weststadt and Mühlburg, the Nordweststadt was formed in the 1970s. Most of the residential areas were built after the Second World War and the district still has neither a prominent location nor a historical core. Life is good in the northwest city. There are numerous schools and kindergartens and the destination can be reached quickly with the Karlsruhe tram. On the other hand, the shopping situation, which is improved by two larger grocery stores, is less satisfactory. The commercial areas are located on Neureuter Straße, away from the residential areas. Located a little further to the northern Hart is the site of the "old airfield", which is protected (flora-fauna-habitat).
