A district with prospects is the Oststadt with twenty thousand inhabitants.

It is bordered in the west by Linkenheimer Alle, Audenauerring and Kapellenstraße, and in the south by the new Kriegsstraße-Ost. Following the renovation work in the neighborhoods to the right and left of Durlacher Alle, the quality of living has increased significantly in recent years. Between the Durlacher Tor and the Oststadt Ring, the Hardtwald and the Südstadt there are many cultural monuments that significantly increase the charm and attractiveness of the district. The old architectural styles, along with some of the newer buildings, show the colorful diversity of the eastern city. You will find a lively and growing living and working environment here like no other district in Karlsruhe. Many small commercial businesses can be found on the ground floor, below the residential buildings, which are typical of the eastern part of the city, which has also developed into the heart of the technology region in recent years. The eastern part of the city received the Gottesaue Castle in the sixteenth century, which was rebuilt between 1982 and 1989. Gottesaue Castle now serves as the home of the State University of Music. Other sights in Karlsruhe's Oststadt include Gottesaue Castle, the Old Cemetery, the Karlsruhe Main Cemetery (the oldest German park cemetery), various Art Nouveau streets, the KIT Botanical Garden, the Old Slaughterhouse, and the Hoepfner Castle.
