Today's southwestern city of Karlsruhe is located on almost the entire former Beiertheim district. In the years 1800 and 1808, the city gradually acquired building land from the neighboring community to the south for an urgently needed urban expansion. The district is divided into three areas: the eastern part is characterized by the main train station, fairground with congress center and the Karlsruhe Zoological Garden. The middle area has the highest population density. There is a notorious shortage of parking space throughout the southwestern part of the city. In the last 20 years, various service facilities have been located in the so-called Beiertheimerfeld. Schools, hospitals, the ZKM, the University of Design, the Municipal Gallery, the Filmpalast, the Federal Prosecutor General at the Federal Court of Justice, the State Central Bank and the Museum for New Art, among others, have found their homes in the southwest city from cramped conditions. Residential buildings were recently built in Beiertheimer Feld. As a local recreation area, the Günter Klotz facility offers an attractive destination along the Alb. Thanks to public transport and the proximity to the city center, every destination can be reached quickly.
